Sections, Day 2- Jaguars Wrestling Battles in Final Four & Wrestlebacks -- Austin Kampsen Drops Nail-Biter 6-5 in Semi's... None Advance to State
The Jaguars wrestling team found success and disappointment as Day 2 of Sections is underway today at Kimball.
Austin Kampsen battled hard in his semi-final match but fell 6-5. He will fight for all he's worth through the consolation bracket and hope for a True Second berth later today.
By 4:00pm, the only wrestler remaining in contention for a state berth was Austin Kampsen, who won his first wrestleback match. He needs two more wins (and another important item to happen) to advance to next week's State Tournament.
Cole Tensen, Travis Winter, Brent Gregory, and Brent Goodenbour will all wrestle for fifth place in their brackets. Five of 13 Jaguars will place in Section 5A.
**Update at 6:20pm... Austin Kampsen lost in his final wrestleback match, erasing his chances to go to "State" for his senior year. It was a heartbreaking loss to watch (a 5-2 decision to a Long Prairie-Grey Eagle wrestler). Cole Tensen and Travis Winter, and Brent Goodenbour all won their fifth place matches.
