Defending Section 5A Champion Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg is ranked #1 in the latest Class A poll. I think they were ranked #1 back in the 1999 season, when their season ended in the state quarterfinals to Cook County. In 2007, K-M-S lost in the state semi-finals, playing the last game in the H.H.H. Metrodome.
This year's version looks to be just as good as last year's. They've grown quite a bit since their 14-7 section semi-final loss to our Jaguars on October 28, 2006. (They were soundly beaten by Wabasso in the Section 5A championship that season.)
Dawson-Boyd also received votes in the poll. They went 10-1 in 2007, losing to K-M-S in the section championship. So we've got state-ranked teams in both our football and volleyball playoff sections.
The HL-W-W Lakers football team lost 27-14 to Norwood-Young America, a team that played in the state tournament in 2007. N-YA has a powerful running attack, and their defense kept the Lakers off of the scoreboard until the 4th quarter. The Raiders totaled 270 rushing yards, led by a sophomore running back who tallied 184 yards rushing on 22 carries. N-YA's senior quarterback went 7-for-13 in passing, with one touchdown pass, one interception, and a rushing touchdown on a quarterback sneak.
I'm still in the process of updating my advertising on this website, basically getting them spiced up with more color and photography included. More local businesses have been purchasing ads lately, so I'll be getting them up as well. I can't say enough how great it is to have the support of local B-B-E businesses from all parts of the district. I'll continue doing all I possibly can to promote and support their small-town enterprises as well as the accomplishments of our Jaguars sports teams.
