**Update at 2:35 on Sunday afternoon...I just started adding video clips. I've added two that you can see below...**they are best viewed in the Internet Explorer browser. Lately for some reason Mozilla Firefox hasn't been playing the video clips on this website.
**Added at 6:30 Sunday night...Finally getting into my photos, here's my "gem" that I want to share with everyone. It's a low-quality version of this photo. Volleyball families who purchase my photo CD's will get the best version that can be enlarged. I'd say the players were pretty ecstatic at this point, right after Maggie Gruber's attack went down for a kill and match point and a return trip to state!
Much to read up on with the Martin County West Mavericks...before getting to the story, I'll add a little more about the Martin County West school district. Their school is in the town of Sherburn, which lies in Interstate-90 between Worthington and Fairmont, roughly 15 miles west of Fairmont. The population of Sherburn was 1,082 in the 2000 census. The Martin County School district has an enrollment of 269 in Grades 9-12, making them one of the biggest schools in Class A. (For comparison, Morris Area has 290 kids in 9-12th grade, and they are one of the smallest Class AA schools, and B-B-E has a 9-12th grade enrollment of 219.)
Martin County West is a consolidated school (formed in 1988) of the former districts of Sherburn, Trimont, and Welcome. They have a Junior High/elementary in Trimont, plus elementary schools in Trimont and Welcome, and a Senior High School in Sherburn.
One can actually find Sherburn by following Minnesota State Highway 4 all the way to the MN-Iowa border. (MN-4 cuts down Stearns County just past the eastern edge of the B-B-E school district)
The Mavericks' libero is senior Samantha Breneman. One of their setters is Taylor Saxen, who is a sophomore. I don't know yet if they have a 5-1 or 6-2 offense.
