Cole shown in action at the season-opening tournament last December...
Junior Jaguars wrestler Cole Tensen, who recently won his 100th match of his career, punched his ticket to the Class A State Tournament next weekend at St.Paul's XCel Energy Center. He finished 2nd in the 140-pound division at today's Section 5A individual tournament at Long Prairie-Grey Eagle high school.
Tensen will take a 33-6 record into "state," which begins next Wednesday, March 4, and goes through Saturday, March 7.
Other results that I heard at 5:00pm:
Josh Beier placed fifth at 125, Patrick Rooney placed fifth at 130, Brent Goodenbour placed fifth at 135.
Travis Winter, who entered the tournament with a 32-5 record, is currently wrestling for 3rd place (at about 6pm)...he does have a chance at wrestling for "true 2nd" and making the state tournament.
Back in the 2006 Section 5A tournament, three Jaguars wrestlers punched tickets to the State Tournament (Tyler Rath, Danny Borgerding, and Travis Rath), with Travis Rath earning a 6th place medal as a freshmen. The past two seasons, the Jaguars wrestlers have been "skunked" at sections, with no one advancing to state. The closest anyone got was Austin Kampsen finishing third in 2008, losing a "true 2nd" match in a truly heartbreaking overtime loss.
A big big thank you to Joe Beier and Paul Rooney for the updates throughout today from Long Prairie.
