Jaguars girls basketball falls 50-39 to top-seeded New London-Spicer

The B-B-E Jaguars girls basketball team's season ended for the second straight year in the Sub-Section 6AA-East semi-final game. Just as last year against Albany, the Jaguars fell behind by a big margin in the first half and were unable to close the gap in the second frame.

NL-S is the 4th-ranked team in Class AA, and they improved to 27-1 overall while advancing to the Sub-Section 6AA-East championship game for the second straight season. They will face West Central North Conference rival Sauk Centre, who is playing in the sub-section title game for the second time in the past three seasons.

Sauk Centre withstood an incredible challenge from third-seeded Albany, finally prevailing 64-63 in double-overtime in the 2nd game at St.John's tonight. At one point in the second half, the Mainstreeters trailed by seven points to the Huskies, who had won the previous six sub-section championships.

Two outstanding seniors end their basketball career at B-B-E, Heidi Lensing and Emily Roelike. They won a total of 48 games their final three years at B-B-E, the most wins in any three-year run in the 21-year history of the Jaguars girls basketball program. They also had an excellent three-year run in the Central Minnesota Conference, where they went 7-7 as sophomores, 9-5 as juniors, and then 11-3 as seniors. (Combined 27-15 in three seasons.)

In Sub-Section 6AA-West, Minnewaska Area dropped the hammer on the West Central Area Knights in the game's final seven minutes. With about 7:30 left in the game, the Lakers led 32-31. The final score was 58-34. WCA finishes their season 21-4. They were the sub-section champions last year out of Sub-Section 6AA-West.
