Jaguars Boys Basketball pulls into first place in the Central Minnesota Conference, wins 67-61 over Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted

The Jaguars boys basketball team improved to 10-2 overall with a hard-fought 67-61 win against CMC rival Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted tonight. The Jaguars, who enjoyed a huge 37-23 rebounding edge in the game, expanded a 30-28 halftime lead to as much as 20 points in the second half. HL-W-W then rained three-pointers to close the deficit and make the Jaguars sweat down the stretch.

Scoring leaders for the Jaguars: Connor Goodwin 18, Kevin Kuefler 16 and Brady Koehler 13.

Both teams are now tied at the top of the Central Minnesota Conference at 4-1 in the league. Rockford and Maple Lake are both a 1/2 game back at 3-1 in the league. A Maple Lake win in the St.John's Prep Holiday tournament on December 19 over Holdingford did not count as a CMC game.

The conference race is on!

The Pierz Pioneers won their first game of the season, defeating the visiting Kimball Area Cubs 46-40. Pierz is now 1-10 overall, which is just crazy in my mind!

Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted dips below .500 overall at 5-6 with tonight's loss to the Jaguars. Kimball is 2-2 in the CMC after tonight's loss at Pierz.

The Wildcats cut the lead to 42-41 with 12:05 left, and then played a 2 to 3-possession game the rest of the way; the closest they got down the stretch was a 54-52 deficit.
