Both basketball teams win tonight - Boys drub Eden Valley-Watkins 63-46, Girls get past Melrose 43-35

Senior post Lauren Anderson swats away a Melrose field goal attempt tonight, late in the Jaguars' win over the neighboring rival Dutchmen. She tallied 10 points and 10 rebounds in the game.

The Jaguars girls basketball team improved to 5-11 overall with the win. They led 17-12 at halftime. Melrose, who is 6-4 in the West Central South Conference, falls to 8-9 overall.

The Jaguars girls basketball team stretched their five-point halftime lead at Melrose into double digits, leading by as much as a 28-17 margin. After the Dutchmen went on a 7-0 run, two paint buckets by Raeann Sorenson and Maggie Gruber gave the Jaguars more breathing room.

Julie Hieserich then scored off of the press to make it 34-28 with 5:04 on the clock.

Down the stretch, strong free throw shooting by the Jaguars kept Melrose at bay, highlighted by Sorenson's 4-of-4 performance at the line.

The Jaguars boys basketball team led 33-17 at halftime on their way to another double-digit win in Central Minnesota Conference play, as they dropped Eden Valley-Watkins to 4-12 overall on the season and 1-6 in the CMC.

The Jaguars came back from early 4-2 and 6-4 deficits to throttle the Eagles in the final nine minutes of the first half. At the 9:15 mark, B-B-E led 14-10, but by halftime they had a 33-17 lead.
