That hurts, Jaguars fall 54-50 in the Sub-Section 6A-South championship game, finishes 25-4 overall for best-ever record at B-B-E

A few scenes from the game, more will be added on Wednesday in higher resolution. You'll be able to view over a hundred photos from the game on the Sauk Centre Herald's online photo gallery.

Plenty of fan support for the B-B-E Jaguars!

Here's a video clip taken with just over 6:00 left in the second half.

Kirby Montbriand got clobbered in the face in this clip, taken in the middle of the second half. He sank both free throws to make it a 47-44 deficit with 2:53 left in the game.

Look in the last post below to read all about the first half of the game.

The Jaguars fell behind less than a minute into the second half and were trailing 37-30 with 10:20 on the clock. They played catch-up the rest of the way.

They fought back to make it a two-point game on three different occasions but couldn't regain the lead in the closing minutes. They trailed by as many as seven points (37-30 and 39-32) after many defensive lapses.

With 4:40 left, Brady Koehler fouled out.

At the 4:14 mark, Kevin Kuefler's two-of-two free throw performance made it a 42-40 game.

With under 2:00 left a free throw by Kevin Kuefler made it 47-45 (Comets) and that was as close as the Jaguars got.

The Jaguars finish on a low note to what was otherwise a sparkling season, finishing 25-4 overall, the best ever season in B-B-E history.

Hillcrest Lutheran Academy won for the 12th time in a row, improving to 22-2 overall. The Comets struggled with their field goal shooting against a rugged Jaguar 2-3 zone defense, including free throw shooting (15-30) throughout the night, missing 6 of their last seven free throw opportunities in the game.

Their defense is what won the game, though, with Coach Montbriand stating the following to the West Central Tribune after the loss, "That’s the best defense we’ve played against this year. They had a relentless man-to-man defense. They challenged every pass."

Hillcrest held B-B-E to just six field goals in the second half. Overall, the game was tied four times and the lead changed hands eight times in the game.

Hillcrest will now face Ada-Borup (27-1) for the Section 6A championship at seven o'clock Friday night at Memorial Auditorium, Concordia College, in Moorhead.

A more complete game recap and photos from the game will be posted on Wednesday.

This is awesome news, the Smooth Magic 107 (Glenwood) radio station has reported that tonight's streaming audio broadcast of the Jaguars game had the highest number of "listeners" pulling up the game on the internet since the 2008 State Volleyball tournament. I believe they can have up to 50 listeners at once before their broadband is maxed out.
