Jaguars boys golf team opens season with CMC meet on April 8; will be led by defending individual CMC champion Corey Tonn

The Jaguars boys golf team, who narrowly missed out on a Section 5A berth at last year's sub-section meet, will open the 2010 campaign with the first Central Minnesota Conference meet of the season on April 8 at the Osakis Country Club at 4:15pm.

At last year's Sub-Section 5A-North meet, Ortonville took the team title with a 331, followed by Chokio-Alberta/Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley with a 353. B-B-E took third with a 356, with West Central Area coming in at fourth with a 370. Osakis was fifth with a 373, and Wheaton/Herman-Norcross finishing sixth with a 387.

Osakis is a first-year member of the CMC in 2010, having previously competed in the Quad County Conference that included teams such as Chokio-Alberta/Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley, Ashby/Evansville, Ortonville, Underwood, Wheaton/Herman-Norcross, and Henning.

The Jaguars will host a CMC meet at Prairie View Golf Course on Friday, May 14 at 1:00pm.

For 2010, the Jaguars return 2009 Section 5A participants Matt Goodwin and Corey Tonn. They, along with Chris Kent, are the seniors on a very deep varsity roster. Tonn and Goodwin took third and fourth-place, respectively, at the Sub-Section 5A-North tournament last year, while also earning All-Conference honors. Tonn won the individual Central Minnesota Conference championship last year as well, while as a team the Jaguars finished second, only six strokes behind champion HL-W-W.

Final 2009 Central Minnesota Conference boys golf standings:
(1) Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted 1,076 (2) B-B-E 1,082 (3) Pierz 1,088 (4) Rockford 1,109 (5) Kimball 1,119 (6) Maple Lake 1,166.
