Friday Night Lights Part III - Jaguars drop CMC contest at Howard Lake 28-7

Well, I'll say one thing, at least they weren't West Central Area out at #10-ranked (Class 2A) Breckenridge tonight, where the Knights lost 59-0 to the Cowboys in a game that had steady rain the whole time. (I heard Breckenridge scored on the opening kickoff.)

Or they could be in Royalton's shoes, as they lost their best player, literally the heart and soul of their team in Zach Lanners to an injury in Week 2, and they lose to Ottertail Central tonight 35-0...on their home field no less after receiving the #6 ranking in Class A earlier this week in the state polls.

That's no solace to the team or coaches, however, as they fully expected to go into Lakers' country at Howard Lake and play a competitive football game with a positive outcome.

Fueled by five B-B-E turnovers, the Lakers rolled up a 28-0 lead at halftime. The Lakers' first touchdown of the game was from 26 yards out on a fumble recovery in the first quarter. The Jaguars (0-2 CMC, 1-2 overall) scored on a 26-yard touchdown reception from Koehler to Kevin Kuefler in the third quarter for their lone touchdown of the game. Kuefler also earned the Jaguars' lone interception of the game.

HL-W-W improved to 1-1 in the CMC and 1-2 overall.

Read more on the game in next week's local papers.

Up next for the Jaguars football team: a home game in Week 4 against Rockford, who will be looking for a little payback after losing the last two meetings with the Jaguars. (31-13 in '08 and 16-8 last year) Tonight Rockford was at Maple Lake and I assume the Irish destroyed the Rockets. *They did, by a 46-7 margin.
