The B-B-E Jaguars Cross Country teams begin their 2010 season at Ney Park in Maple Lake for an invitational.
For the Jaguars boys squad, they will be led by standout long distance runner Grant Bell, a senior, who has piled up his share of hardware not only in cross country but also on the track and field team the past two years.
Joining him will be junior Daniel Rooney and sophomore Jared Sorenson.
The Jaguars girls squad has one runner, freshmen Mackenzie Geer.
If you want to come out and cheer for the Jaguars cross country teams, mark next Thursday on your calendar, September 9, when the annual Jaguar Cross Country Invitational will be held at Prairie View Community Golf Course. More on that will be posted here next week.
For volleyball fans...a match to watch would be Bertha-Hewitt vs. Nevis at Nevis on Thursday night. Both teams will be in the mix come playoff time in Section 5A.
The Jaguars volleyball team (1-0) has their home opener tomorrow night, Thursday, when Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City comes to town for a non-conference match. B and C squad matches begin at 6:00pm, while the varsity begins at 7:30.
For A-C-GC, this will be their season opener. They have two lone seniors on the roster, which is dominated by six juniors. The Falcons finished 10-13 overall last year, going 0-1 in the Sub-Section 2A-North playoffs and finishing 6-6 (4th tie) in the West Central South Conference.
Now in football news... I just heard from a very reliable source that the preseason football state rankings have not been released yet by the Associated Press. Star Tribune prep journalist (and MSHSL media specialist) John Millea told me in a e-mail tonight that he will post them to his MSHSL blog as soon as he gets them. You can find his writing, which has focused lately on his very extensive travel around the state of Minnesota the past few weeks, by visiting the Minnesota High School League website and clicking under "John's Journal" http://mshsl.org/mshsl/index.asp
John Millea is also on Twitter at twitter.com/mshsljohn
