In their ninth straight sub-section championship berth dating back to 2002, the B-B-E Jaguars volleyball team turned it on when it counted and won a 3-1 match over Bertha-Hewitt in front of a packed crowd tonight at Pierz Healy High School. Game scores were 22-25, 25-14, 25-20, 25-17.
The Jaguars trailed 10-4 in game three before turning it on - tying it at 12-12 - and then pulling ahead 15-12 only to see the Bears force ties at 15-15, 16-16, 17-17, 18-18, and 19-19. Three kills from that point on by the Jaguars and a couple Bears' hitting errors brought game point, when Taylor Braegelman served up an ace to give the Jaguars a 25-20 win.
Now 26-2 overall, the Jaguars will face Nevis in the Section 5A championship this Saturday night at 7:00pm. The match will be held again at Memorial Athletic Center at Pierz Healy High School. This is the third year in a row that these two teams have met in the Section 5A championship match. It will be the rubber meeting of the two, as the series sits at 1-1 between them.
In the Sub-Section 5A-East championship tonight, Nevis defeated East Central in a 3-0 sweep.
The B-B-E Acoustix choir singers perform the National Anthem at Pierz tonight.
Action from late in game one, which the Bears won 25-22 tonight.
In 12 of 23 seasons of Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa dating back to the 1988 merger, the Jaguars volleyball team has played in a sub-section title match. This year marks the 9th year in a row that they’ve played for a sub-section title – and they’ve won seven in a row now. They are 3-3 in the last 6 years in section championship matches.
Come Saturday night, they will work to erase the bad memory of a 3-0 loss to Nevis in last year's section final.
