On Monday night this week, the Jaguars girls' basketball team hosts Melrose Area in a non-conference game. This was not on the schedule until recently, as the two schools worked it out after B-B-E got an opening for another game.
Bravo to both schools' administrators for getting this lined up. I see no reason why neighboring non-conference schools can't play one another twice in the regular season. I know it can't happen all the time, but it should be encouraged whenever possible.
On Dec. 15 earlier in the season, the Dutchmen won a close game on their court over the Jaguars 57-50.
Here's a bit of information from Friday night's action for Melrose, courtesy of Herman Lensing's Dutchmen Sports Blog:
"Melrose defeated Albany 55-43 to end a losing streak and even their WCC-N record at 4-4. The Lady Dutchmen had dropped three straight prior to the win. Leading Melrose's offense was Jenna Orth with 14 points. Emily Goerdt added another 13 points. Melrose's defense held Albany to 14 first half points."
Here's a clip from the first half of the NL-S game last week, while the Jaguars were trying to pull away from the Wildcats...it will only be available for viewing for the next two days.
