Denied! Adam Heinze puts up essentially a wall to stop a drive to the hoop by a Rockets player tonight. |
At halftime, the Jaguars boys' basketball team leads 36-16. With 2:44 left, two double bonus free throws by Trey Heinsius made it 28-11.The Dazzlers dance team is set to perform at the start of halftime.
Speaking of halftime, here's a glimpse of part of the student section tonight...they love their Jaguars!
**With 5:31 left in the game, the Jaguars are up 60-45.
Here's action from the first half...
Final: B-B-E boys 74, Rockford Area 50. The Jaguars are 19-1 overall and 9-0 in the Central Minnesota Conference! Way to go!
The Rockets fall to 10-10 overall and 5-5 in the CMC.
**In case you missed it...here's the link to the "John's Journal" website where you can read an excellent story on the Jaguars boys' basketball team written by John Millea, MSHSL media specialist and former Star Tribune sports writer: http://www.mshsl.org/mshsl/johnsjournal.asp . You'll have to scroll down the page a bit to see the B-B-E article (posted over the weekend of Jan. 26-27th)
**And another Woop Woop! Here's the final in girls' basketball action tonight at the B-B-E high school: B-B-E Jaguars 34, Paynesville Area 31! The Bulldogs entered the game 11-8 overall. The Jaguars improve to 5-16 overall and have a legitimate shot at winning the rest of their regular season games...they could do it! I really think they could make some noise in the playoffs if they can put it together in time.
And...the Jaguar wrestlers won 57 to 20 at Rockford tonight!!! They take a 13-4 record into the Section 5A playoffs that start next Tuesday night. The 13 wins is the most earned by a Jaguar wrestling team in the regular season since 1998-99. They finished 3-3 in the Central Minnesota Conference. Rockford fell to 2-18 overall with the loss.
Just saw this...kind of surprised me...earlier this week on Monday, the Battle Lake Battlers boys' basketball team lost to Hillcrest Lutheran Academy 41-36 on their home floor. The Comets are only 8-7 overall and are listed at #85 on the QRF. I'd rate that as a pretty big upset loss for the Battlers (13-5 overall).
Central Minnesota Conference boys' basketball scores on Feb. 8:
Pierz 59, Maple Lake 55
Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted 62, Eden Valley-Watkins 51
Holdingford 56, Kimball Area 55 (Huskers get a big win on their home floor to snap an 8-game losing streak; they're now 4-14 overall and 2-8 in the CMC)
Area girls' basketball scores on February 8:
Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg 59, MACCRAY 32
Henning 40, Battle Lake 39
Area boys' basketball scores on February 8:
Dawson-Boyd 50, Montevideo 40
Sauk Centre 84, Paynesville Area 46
Melrose Area 77, Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta 55
Benson 89, Yellow Medicine East 68
Upsala 63, Browerville 56 (Cardinals go to Browerville and get a key win, now 17-0 overall)
Minnewaska Area 68, Lac qui Parle Valley 65
Hillcrest Lutheran Academy 60, Ashby 37 (in spite of the Arrows having a respectable QRF ranking of #31, they just don't appear to be a contender at this point with 4 losses to sub-section opponents...I don't think seeding will go well for Ashby)
Ortonville 70, Wheaton/Herman-Norcross 61 (W/H-N at 13-5 overall is looking strong and could make a case for a #2 seed in Sub-Section 6A-South if they can beat Henning next Friday in Henning and beat Ashby on March 1 in Wheaton)
