Step II: Volleyball team wins by sweep!

Kinlee was all fired up in game three tonight, with the Jaguars prevailing 25-22 to end the match.

They had a lot of fun tonight. That's what you want to see in a team as they march into the playoffs!

Celebrating a kill by Jamie Meyer in game 2.

The Bears had little answer for B-B-E's powerful attack at the net tonight. Shown is Megan Weller knocking down a kill against a Bertha-Hewitt block attempt.

The Jaguars volleyball team lived up to expectations tonight by earning their second straight sweep to open the Sub-Section 5A-South playoffs. With the football team at home going through an important practice, the Jaguars played well and had outstanding support from their JV and C-squad counterparts.

Now 25-7 overall, the Jaguars play at Pierz on Thursday night at 7:30pm against tonight's Browerville vs. Royalton winner. **Update: the Royals upset the #1-seeded Browerville Tigers tonight in the late match in Long Prairie. The Tigers were the top team in Sub-District II. It was a wildly unbelievable match where the Royals prevailed in five sets: 25-13, 25-17, 16-25, 21-25, 16-14!!! Royalton is now 17-10-1 overall, while the Tigers end their season 19-7 overall. Browerville was the Prairie South Conference champion with an 8-3 record. Royalton was the runner-up in the Prairie North Conference with a 6-4 mark.

Game scores against Bertha-Hewitt were 25-22, 25-13, 25-22. The Bears had a solid senior setter but were fairly young otherwise. They have a superbly talented coach, however, in Janelle Bright (a Cyrus native) and had a spectacular season going 20-10-2 overall.

I've got more match notes to post after 11:00 tonight.

Here's action from tonight in Long Prairie:

More to follow later tonight after a school board meeting. (Not a great deal of fun but it pays the bills!) ... and it was a short meeting! Sometimes Karma works with you, not against you.

In Sub-Section 5A-North: Nevis beat Onamia 25-20, 25-18, 25-12; Braham beat Sebeka 26-24, 25-16, 25-19.

Area volleyball playoff results on Oct. 29:
Sauk Centre 3, Pierz 1 (Pioneers won game one 26-24)
Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart 3, New Ulm Cathedral 2 (Mustangs win game five 15-13!)
Minneota 3, Dawson-Boyd 0
New London-Spicer 3, Redwood Valley 1
Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta 3, Litchfield 2 (Tigers upset #2-seeded Dragons, but I don't see them beating NL-S on Thursday in the sub-section championship; MA/CA or Morris hasn't been this far in the playoffs since 2001)
Melrose Area 3, Osakis 2! (Dutchmen take game five 15-10; they now face Sauk Centre in the sub-section title match)
Maple Lake 3, St. Anthony Village 1
Rocori 3, Albany 0
Battle Lake 3, Wheaton/Herman-Norcross 1
BOLD 3, Mankato Loyola 1
