Both basketball teams win! Three Jaguar wrestlers earn silver at NL-S

At Kimball, the Jaguars boys' basketball team won 79 to 53 to stay undefeated in the Central Minnesota Conference. They trailed 6-4 in the opening minutes, then pulled ahead 10-6 and 17-12 before the Cubs (9-5 overall, 3-4 CMC) got within two at 19-17. With 8:34 left, a rebound shot by Brian Goodwin made it 21-17. The Jaguars were in another run on the Cubs and pulled ahead 27-19 before building a 37-25 halftime lead. For the game, the Jaguars blistered the nets on 34-of-53 field goal shooting (64%!) They shot 29-of-42 from two-point range.

The B-squad Jaguars won at Kimball.

Up next: a game I've been looking forward to ALL season! New London-Spicer (8-3) visits our house on Monday. Get there early!!! The Wildcats lost 79-59 to Class AAA Waconia tonight to fall to 1-3 in the Wright County-West Conference.

In a home game, the Jaguars girls' basketball team defeated Ortonville 80 to 60. Hailey Braegelman scored an incredible double-double with 26 points and a school-record 17 rebounds! Also pretty awesome is the second-half play of the Jaguars after they fell behind 39-33 at halftime. They regained the lead at 46-45 on a rebound shot by Kinlee Swanson with 13 minutes left and slowly stretched out the lead from there. With 5 minutes left, the Jaguars led 68-54. From the 4:40 mark, when the Trojans scored to trail 68-56, up until just 20 seconds remained in the game, Ortonville scored just two points.

Peyton Miller, Megan Weller, Swanson and Braegelman all finished in double figures. That's a rare achievement to get four players in double figures! Scoring 47 second-half points is pretty outstanding! For the night, the Jaguars shot an unheard-of 88 field goal attempts. They'll need more good offensive punch when they travel to Pierz (2-10, 0-4 CMC) on Monday. The Pioneers lost 63-48 in Foley tonight.

The B-squad Jaguars beat Ortonville 45-36. The varsity Trojans fell to 7-5 overall with the loss; they're in first place in the Pheasant Conference with a 3-1 mark.

I have a ton of results/updates on the Jaguars wrestling team from the NL-S tournament. Alex Schramel, Kaleb Voss and and Josey Tensen all got 2nd place as the top finishers for the Jaguars.

More wrestling updates: Ben Thompson took third place by pinning his opponent in the final match in the final second! Joe Reller got 4th, Colby Schramel and Adam Jaeger both took 5th and Treven Quade finished in 6th place.

Here's Alex Schramel winning his first-round match tonight against an Albany wrestler at 152 pounds:z

I will post more on Saturday.

I have to give a quick shout out to the B-B-E Speech team, who travels to Chanhassen tomorrow for their 2014 season opener. Good luck, speechsters!!
