Jaguars bury HLWW

A post-game interview tonight:

The Jaguars boys' basketball team won 79 to 39 in a Central Minnesota Conference game in front of another outstanding home crowd. They led 39-23 at halftime and blew it wide open in the second half. Once again, the Mercy Rule went into effect, this time against a pretty solid Class AA team. The Lakers entered the contest 12-4 overall.

Ben Thompson won a 9-1 major decision at 170 pounds tonight.

I have an overwhelming amount of material that I want to post tonight from tonight's wrestling match, where the Jaguars wrestling team lost 44-26 to Kimball Area at the high school. They led 13-6 early, then struggled in the middle weights before getting nice wins at 170 (Ben Thompson), 182 (Joe Reller) and then at heavyweight (Ben Feuerhake). The heavyweight match lasted a whole 28 seconds and ended with a fall! I'm working on uploading a video from Joe Reller's match...and other content. A late night ahead of me.

Something very special took place prior to the start of the wrestling action. I will expand on that later.

I also failed to mention this week, and yeah I'll just blame it on the weather why I've been so scattered the past few days...the elementary wrestling Jaguars lost their first dual meet at the Alexandria tournament on Sunday to Lac qui Parle Valley/Montevideo/Dawson-Boyd "United" before rallying to beat New London-Spicer, Morris Area and Minnewaska Area on their way to taking second place out of 10 teams! Great job!!!

Finally...here's that match at 182 tonight:

Tomorrow's action includes the Jaguars girls' basketball team at Kimball Area and the wrestlers at the Browerville dual tournament.

A boys'/girls' basketball double header is in store for Jaguar Country on Saturday at the high school. Action starts with a C-squad boys' game at 13:00, followed by the JV boys' and girls' games at 14:00. The Jaguars girls' basketball team hosts Browerville in a crucial Section 5A match up where they can show the rest of the section that they're a contender. Come out and cheer them on!

In the boys' basketball game tonight, the Lakers took a 3-2 lead on a three-pointer by Alex Smith in the opening minute. Nick Benton's bank shot moments later gave the lead back to the Jaguars as they went on an 8-0 run. I have more notes to go through before I can write up more of the game.

Also noteworthy: Coach Brad Goodwin's B-squad Jaguars defeated HL-W-W 43-40 tonight.

Central Minnesota Conference boys' basketball scores on Jan. 23:
Kimball Area 64, Pierz 62
Eden Valley-Watkins 65, Rockford Area 52
Maple Lake 69, Holdingford 29
