Survival at Maple Lake

The Jaguars boys' basketball team survived their toughest non-Apple Valley game of the season when they made the 1-hour trip to Maple Lake tonight in a Central Minnesota Conference game.

With 13 minutes remaining, the Jaguars were down 36-34 but then scored a 6-0 run to regain the lead. They battled and battled to the end in a 59-49 win. I guess in a week with the crazy nonsense we called "Minnesota weather" that we've had, it was only fitting that the Jaguars were in a nail-biter against a team they should have easily put away.

The Irish fall to 2-7 overall and 2-3 in the CMC; their lone wins were at home against Holdingford (59-47) on December 12 and at Kimball Area (69-63) on January 3.

Billy Borgerding scored just four points...he is nearing 1,000 points, but I've done what I can to not make it an issue since that type of distraction isn't want a team wants or needs. Up next is a trip to MACCRAY (Clara City) on Saturday for an afternoon game with a very good Wolverines team. The stated start time I've seen is 1:30pm but I have a feeling that represents the start time of the B-squad/C-squad games. MACCRAY is 6-4 overall and 5-2 (2nd) in the Camden North Conference that's led by undefeated Dawson-Boyd. The Blackjacks beat the Wolverines in December 64-47.

No word yet on how the Dazzlers dance team fared at the A-C-GC competition.

*Noteworthy: a pretty solid St. Cloud Cathedral team traveled to Upsala tonight and won 76-71. It's Upsala's second loss of the season.

Central Minnesota Conference boys' basketball scores on Jan. 9:
Eden Valley-Watkins 64, Kimball Area 51
Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted 67, Pierz 63 (at Howard Lake!)
Rockford Area 71, Holdingford 50

Here's a short clip from the second half in the EV-W game tonight:

And here's a clip from the first half...in it you can hear our A.D. gasp in frustration as shot after shot would not fall for our Jaguars...it wasn't like they were putting up bad shots, they just were not dropping...

More will follow in the morning.
