Jaguars take Border Battle game

The Jaguars boys' basketball team defeated an excellent Sauk Centre Mainstreeters team 78-53 in a border battle matinee today.

The Jaguars played 3/4 of the game without their "shot" but finally found their form when Billy Borgerding, James Kuefler, Brian Goodwin and Tanner Heinsius heated things up by combining in a scoring rampage resulting in a 20-5 run during the 9-minute mark up to the 5:41 mark. A three by Goodwin at that juncture put the Jaguars ahead 72-47 after they had a 52-42 lead with 9:30 to go.

In the opening stages of the second half, the Mainstreeters cut it to a one-possession game two times. First, a three-pointer by Matthew Moritz made the score 33-30 just 20 seconds in. Kuefler got two free throws, but then Adam Jensen got it back to a 3-point game when the 6'7" senior post drained a shot in the paint.

With 16 minutes left, Goodwin knocked down a one-handed floating layup for a 37-32 lead, and Sauk Centre got no closer the rest of the way.

Sauk Centre falls to 14-6 overall, while the Jaguars hold a 20-1 record. B-B-E hosts Maple Lake next Tuesday night, and the Dazzlers dance team high kick squad will perform at halftime.

Time to get a little bite to eat, relax for a spell and then return for the JV/C and varsity-squad girls' basketball games. It's husband-versus-wife time, with the Melrose Dutchmen taking on our Jaguars girls' basketball team at the elementary school.
