An absolutely crazy, five-plus year long home winning streak came to an end in a down-to-the-wire contest tonight when the Upsala Cardinals beat our B-B-E Jaguars boys' basketball team 58-55 in the season opener.
Ironically, the last loss at home was by an almost identical score. Back on January 30, 2009, Roger Lindahl's Benson Braves beat our Jaguars 58-56 to drop B-B-E to 13-2 on the season. The Jaguars went from that game until tonight without a loss on the home court.
The Jaguars fought and fought and fought and fought but could only manage a few slim leads late in the game. Check out the video below, where Jordan Wosmek nails a three-pointer with about six seconds to go:
Following the game, head coach Chris Anderson was upbeat in spite of the tough loss where he was breaking in four new starters against a team expecting to gun for a state tournament berth next March.
"I'm really proud of our effort. We were right there with a ranked, veteran team. I could tell we both got tired at the end. We'll keep improving. This loss will sting for a bit, but we're excited to get back to it and get ready for Kimball."
The Cubs come to town for the next game this Friday night. It will be the Central Minnesota Conference opener.
More to follow later tonight.
