Once-beaten Maple Lake's hopes for a state tournament berth fell by the wayside when fourth-seeded Annandale beat the Irish 67-51 in the Sub-Section 5AA-North championship. Coming into the game, Maple Lake's only loss was to Eden Valley-Watkins back in December; the Irish (26-2) ended as sole Central Minnesota Conference champions with a 13-1 mark.
A game that Jaguar fans were interested in...top-seeded Nevis beat Browerville 69-52 after trailing 30-27 at halftime in Wadena tonight. The Nevis Tigers (25-3, 12-2 Northland Conference co-champions) advance to Friday's Section 5A championship game. That game will be held at Wadena-Deer Creek high school with a 7 p.m. tip off.
The Browerville Tigers finish another fine season on the hardwood with a 19-10 overall record.
The Section 6AA Final Four features an impressive display of local teams that have all faced our Jaguars this season. In the SS-6AA-North title game, Sauk Centre and Melrose square off on Wednesday at St. John's University at 6 p.m. After that is the SS-6AA-South title game that has underdog and seventh-seeded Paynesville facing top-seeded Eden Valley-Watkins at 7:30 p.m. also at St. John's University.
The Bulldogs are just 8-17 overall but have won four of their last six games. The Eagles are 24-2 overall and have won eight games in a row.
