The B-B-E Jaguars boys' basketball team overwhelmed Onamia tonight in their Sub-Section 5A-South playoff opener. At halftime, the Jaguars were ahead 25-7.
Final score: B-B-E 60, Onamia 27.
Now 11-16 overall, the No. 2-seeded Jaguars advance to the semifinals this Saturday night in Foley. Tip-off will be approximately 7:45 p.m. Their opponent will be No. 6-seeded St. John's Prep. The Johnnies (7-15) earned an upset 73-68 win over Prairie Conference rival Swanville in another quarterfinal game tonight.
Top-seeded Hinckley-Finlayson (23-4) faces No. 4-seeded Braham (13-14) in the other semifinal game. That game will start at 6 p.m. on Saturday in Foley.
The sub-section final is set for 7 p.m. on Monday, March 12 at a site TBD, but my guess is it will be back in Foley. We probably won't know until Sunday.
In another area sub-section tonight...
In a Sub-Section 3AA-North boys' basketball semifinal game, Minnewaska Area won an epic battle with long-time conference and border battle rival Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta 58-51 in overtime. The Lakers (19-7) take on New London-Spicer in the championship on Saturday. NL-S beat Redwood Valley 82-72 in the other semifinal game.
