The Wildcats also picked up a 26-24, 26-24 win over Rocori, who is coming off of a rare losing season in which they went 9-19 last year. The perennially-strong Rocori Spartans went 26-5 in the 2017 season, which ended for them with a 3-1 loss in the Section 6AA championship to eventual state champion Maple Lake. Rocori went 25-5 in 2016 and finished as sub-section runners-up with a playoff loss to eventual state champion Maple Lake. In 2015 they won their section title with a 3-2 win over Jim Klaphake's Sauk Centre Mainstreeters by taking game five 15-11. The Spartans took fourth at state that year.
...back to present day!
Set scores for NL-S against Sauk Centre today were 25-21, 15-25, 15-12.
NL-S defeated Maple Lake 30-28, 25-16.
NL-S defeated Albany 25-22, 20-25, 15-12.
All this against the backdrop of NL-S going 12-15 overall last season and 2-5 (sixth) in the eight-team Wright County West Conference. They went 10-18 in 2017 and 12-17 in 2016.
If there's one thing you can be certain of, it is that on the evening of September 10, the Bonanza Valley Voice newspaper's sports department will be down in Wildcat Country cheering on the B-B-E Jaguars volleyball team in their border battle with NL-S! I'd like to see folks already making plans to get down there to pack our side of the gym at Fort Knox!
For the record, the B-B-E Jaguars open the 2019 volleyball season on the home court next Tuesday, August 27 against Osakis. The B- and C-squad matches start at 5:45 p.m., and the varsity match will follow and should get rolling by 7:15 p.m.
