Game night

The B-B-E Jaguars boys' basketball team is hosting Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted tonight. The game is on 106.5 FM The Train. The Lakers hold an 8-4 overall record and are 2-1 in the Central Minnesota Conference. Also noteworthy is that they have won three games in a row coming into tonight. This is their first CMC game since a 56-53 overtime loss at Paynesville on January 2.

With 13 minutes left in the first half, the Jaguars have a 7-6 lead.

*Update: with just under seven minutes to go, the Jaguars are ahead 14-9.

*Update: the Lakers narrowed the lead to 15-14, and then with 5:25 left, Jackson Peter knocked down a three for an 18-14 lead.

The Lakers ended the half on an impressive 9-0 run to take a 23-18 lead into halftime.

*Second half update: with 10 minutes to go, the Lakers hold a 33-28 lead.

*Update: with 65 seconds left, the Lakers are ahead 41 to 36.

Final score:  HL-W-W 47, B-B-E 40. The Lakers, who stand in third place in the CMC with a 3-1 record, overcame a valiant effort by the Jaguars with 13-of-26 free throw shooting. The Jaguars (5-8, 2-3) got to the line for just seven shots and made good on five of them.

In another CMC game tonight, the Eden Valley-Watkins boys' basketball team defeated Maple Lake 56-34. The Eagles are now 4-0 in the CMC, a half game behind 5-0 Paynesville Area. Also tonight in a boys' basketball CMC game, Paynesville Area won 56-54 against host Kimball Area.

At Holdingford tonight, the B-B-E Jaguars girls' basketball team trailed 26-24 at halftime against the once-beaten Huskers. Final score: Holdingford 53, B-B-E 42. The Jaguars (6-7) were hampered by frigid 30-percent field goal shooting. Next: a tough home contest on Thursday this week against new CMC member Royalton.
