Our wrestling and girls' basketball teams are in action tonight. I've got more to post later this afternoon, including the video player for the home girls' basketball game.
Also, the local zip code area of Belgrade, Brooten and Elrosa has a new COVID-19 number of five for the past week's reporting period. That is a good number for the dead of winter! Five new cases in a population of 4,285 in the last seven days. The five were all in the Belgrade zip code, which has a population of 2,622. Last week, Brooten's zip code area had four new cases, and Belgrade's zip code area had two new cases. Elrosa continued a long string of weeks at zero new cases dating back to before Christmas. I haven't had a chance to look at other zip code areas yet to write up a complete central Minnesota report. That probably won't happen until tomorrow. I did manage to get this whipped together and online at the Bonanza Valley Voice newspaper website (short link) = https://bit.ly/3owLcIq.
Below is the live video player for tonight's JV and varsity girls' basketball games against Holdingford. It will go "live" at 5:45 p.m. The varsity game will be broadcast on Smooth Magic 107 FM of Glenwood.
**Also, here's the link to the Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City high school broadcasting YouTube page. Here you can watch tonight's wrestling triangular. Click here (short link) and you'll be re-directed to the ACGC YouTube. I'll try getting the live video player embedded on this blog post so you can watch the action straight from this blog. https://bit.ly/2NGQgx7. I am unaware of what the schedule is, but I have a hunch that A-C-GC and West Central Area/Ashby/Brandon-Evansville will wrestle first at 5 p.m. Next would be B-B-E against WCA/A/B-E.
Below, this video player should work for wrestling...try it after 5 p.m.! The B-B-E Jaguars wrestling team and the A-C-GC Falcons are the No. 3 and No. 2-ranked teams in Minnesota's Class 1A. Also, WCA/A/B-E is in the Guillotine "Lean and Mean" rankings. **UPDATE: I found out you can't watch it directly on this blog. You have to click on the video player below to be re-directed to YouTube. Then it should work. It appears that the varsity action started right at 5 p.m. between A-C-GC and WCA/A/B-E.
That's all for now. I have a lot to take care of in order to be able to attend tonight's girls' basketball game in person!
*Update: through the 145-pound match, which is complete as of 5:25 p.m., A-C-GC holds a 31-6 lead over WCA/A/B-E.
*Update: through the first three weight classes, the B-B-E Jaguars have a 12-3 lead over WCA/A/B-E in the second dual of tonight at A-C-GC high school. Ryan Jensen just won a 2-0 decision at the 120-pound class. You can listen to the wrestling action via KKOK 95.7 FM out of Morris.
*Update: in the JV girls' basketball game, the Jaguars had a slim 26-25 lead with 13 minutes left in the second half. Six minutes later and they've opened up a 38-27 lead over Holdingford.
*Update: we are now in the 160-pound match, and Jordan Lohse has a 4-1 lead over Maximus Hanson in the second period. In the team score, B-B-E has a 36-9 lead over WCA/A/B-E. The Live Stream shows that 238 people are watching! *At the end of two periods, Lohse has an 8-3 lead. *Update: Lohse won by a decision, although I don't have the final score from the 160-pound match. WCA/A/B-E is running out of weights to use to close the gap. In the 170-pound match, Talen Kampsen has opened up a 7-1 lead late in the second period over Kade Olson.
*Update: the Jaguars JV girls' basketball team won 47-34 tonight against Holdingford. The varsity game should begin at about 7:20 p.m. It will also be aired on Smooth Magic 107 FM of Glenwood.
*Update: Talen Kampsen clinched the team win for B-B-E against WCA/A/B-E with a win by decision in the 170-pound match. The team score is 39-12 as the 182-pound match is underway.
Time to pack up my gear and head to the high school.
**Early in the first half, the Huskers have a 10-4 lead in the varsity game. They've scored three straight points on free throws with 14 minutes to go.
**Update in basketball: at halftime the Jaguars have a 33 to 24 lead! It's impressive considering they trailed 12 to 4 early in the half.
More updates and final scores in a new blog post.
