Monday night volleyball scoreboard
Here's a run down of volleyball playoff scores from around the area tonight, Monday...
Section 3AA
In Sub-Section 3AA-North, the top-seeded Paynesville Area Bulldogs earned a marquee win in the semifinals with a 3-0 sweep over No. 5-seeded West Central Area. Paynesville improves to 22-3 overall and heads to the finals, while WCA finishes a remarkable season 22-7 overall. WCA had won just 10 matches in 2019 and 2020; they haven't made it past the second round of playoffs since at least 2008, when they finished 17-10-3 overall. The 22 wins is the most wins since that 2008 season. WCA had a string of strong seasons in the mid-2000s, and this season they found some of that magic from so long ago.
Section 6AA
At Sauk Centre high school tonight, the Sauk Centre Mainstreeters swept Melrose Area to advance to the Section 6AA Final Four. The Mainstreeters, who had a first-round bye, won by scores of 25-20, 25-17, 25-16 and improve to 28-1 overall. Melrose finishes a very good season 15-13 overall; they swept Pierz last Thursday to advance out of the first round of Section 6AA.
