CALLING everyone in Jaguar Country and beyond! We need a large, loud and proud crowd of fans in Fergus Falls tomorrow night!
The Sub-Section 6A-South volleyball championship will start at approximately 8 p.m. at Fergus Falls high school. The trip takes about 90 minutes from the B-B-E area depending on where you start and how you get there. I highly recommend getting to Fergus Falls by 7:15 p.m. so you have plenty of time to find parking and walk to the school and get in line for tickets. Get on your phones and emails and social media circles and find out who can go! Let's pack that gym! I've made my rounds with texts to neighboring families with the hopes of filling our Suburban with fans. I've talked to other parents who have their vehicles filled. These are exciting times!!! Planning out the logistics of following our sports teams in road playoff matches never gets old!! How blessed we are to have tremendous student-athletes who can carry our community deep into the postseason!! Let's do our part by following them on game night and cheering our hearts out!!!
Why do I speak with a sense of urgency here? Here's why: Brandon-Evansville is only a half hour drive from Fergus Falls high school. It's a very easy half hour drive, too, just up I-94. The distance is just 30 miles from Evansville (where B-E plays their volleyball matches) to Fergus Falls high school. Their two towns will be emptied at this time tomorrow night. They will have a huge, huge crowd. The gym seats about 3,000. There's no reason we can't get 1,500 fans there!
**Update: we are getting our Suburban filled up! How many vehicles have you been working on loading up with fans??
If the Jaguars win tonight, we do this all again on Saturday back in Fergus Falls!
About Brandon-Evansville:
The Chargers are 17-10 overall and back in the sub-section finals for the first time since 2018. Last year they went 14-11 but were 0-1 in subsections after an upset 3-2 loss to Parkers Prairie in Evansville. B-E took third place (7-2) in the Little Eight Conference this year and was runner-up in their conference last year (9-1 record). In the pandemic year of 2020, the Chargers went 6-0 to claim the title alone. Back in 2018, the Chargers finished 20-7 overall and runners-up in Sub-Section 6A-South while claiming their conference title alone.
**Here's a lengthy video featuring the starter introductions last Friday and the opening minutes of game one against K-M-S:
**Here's a video from September 22 when the Jaguars hosted Eden Valley-Watkins:
The clip above starts with game three tied 5-5 in the battle of unbeaten teams in the Central Minnesota Conference.
I just learned tonight while visiting with a JV-squad member tonight that New London-Spicer lost in a huge upset last night to upstart Minnewaska Area in their subsection playoffs. The Lakers entered the Sub-Section 3AA-North tournament as the No. 6 seed with almost no pressure whatsoever to go on a playoff run. They proceeded to take out the No. 3 seed (Eden Valley-Watkins) and then the No. 2 seed (NL-S) to land a sub-section finals berth for the first time since 2019.
I also saw that No. 4-seeded Kimball Area's season ended last night with a 3-0 loss in the Section 5AA tournament to former CMC member Rockford Area. The No. 5-seeded Rockets take a 12-15 record into the "Final Four" portion of that tournament and will face top-seeded Annandale in the semifinals.
More to come **in a new blog post on Thursday afternoon.
