**Update at state: Ryan Jensen took 5th place tonight at 132 pounds in the finals; he won by fall! For Carson Gilbert, he lost a 9-2 decision to finish sixth at 182.
*Ethan Spanier won by fall in the first period to take third place at state at 220 lb!!
**In the girls' basketball game, our B-B-E Jaguars have an early 16 to 12 lead over the Pine River-Backus Tigers with 10 minutes and 41 seconds to go.
**Later with 7:30 to go, the game is tied 18 to 18. **Halftime: B-B-E 34, PRB 24.
In the second half with 8 minutes to go, the Jaguars are ahead 56 to 32. They are playing incredible defense.
**Final: B-B-E 70, PRB 44. The Jaguars play in the subsection finals on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. back here in Wadena.
In the other semifinal game, Walker-Hackensack-Akeley (20-7) has a 40 to 20 halftime lead over the Nevis Tigers (24-3). **In the second half with 13 minutes to go, the Wolves are ahead 44 to 24.
In Sub-Section 5A-East, number four-seeded Upsala upset top-seeded and No. 20-ranked Braham 57-51 in a semifinal game earlier this afternoon. The Cardinals were ranked No. 50 on the QRF, while the Bombers were ranked No. 14. Upsala (16-12) will now face No. 2-seeded Barnum (24-4) in their subsection finals on Tuesday at Hinckley-Finlayson high school. Barnum defeated Ogilvie 63-49 in their semifinal this afternoon.
**Update in the nightcap at W-DC high school: the Tigers have stormed back to within reach of the Wolves. With 2:24 left, Nevis trails 59-53. They had pulled within four points not too long ago.
FINAL: No. 3-seeded W-H-A 66, No. 2-seeded Nevis 58. The WHA Wolves improve to 21-7 overall heading into the Sub-Section 5A-West championship. They will take on our Jaguars on Tuesday, March 7 right back here at Wadena-Deer Creek high school. Tip-off is at 7 p.m.! Spread the word!
