Boys' hoops fall to Osakis (VIDEO)
The B-B-E Jaguars boys' basketball team fell to 1-1 overall with a 69-50 loss to Osakis tonight on the home court. The Silverstreaks (2-0) led 40-24 at halftime but were held scoreless for the first 5 minutes of the second half. Unfortunately, the Jaguars were only able to score one basket in that time to cut it to 40-26. The Jaguars whittled the deficit down to 9 points with 5 minutes to go on Kaden DeRoo's three-point play that made it a 55-46 deficit. Osakis responded with three straight shots on the low block to maintain a firm grip on the lead.
DeRoo led the Jaguars with 18 points, including four three-pointers. Hayden Sobiech also had a terrific game with 16 points. Luke Illies scored 11 points. Rounding out the scoring was Taylor Pieper with 3 points and Jordan Herickhoff with 2 points.
Here's a video clip from the second half of tonight's game:
That clip was recorded with around 9 minutes to go in the game.
I forgot to mention that tonight's boys' basketball game was broadcast on both local stations, Smooth Magic 107 and also 106.5 FM the Train. I talked to Brady after the game, and he said they are likely going to carry the girls' basketball game in Upsala next Tuesday.
Next: the Jaguars host New London-Spicer (1-1) in a border battle next Tuesday. We'll learn much about NL-S and also Paynesville when those two teams collide tomorrow night for a border battle at Fort Knox in New London.
No word yet out of Minnewaska on how that all played out. I've had a truly exhausting week, so I may just call it a night. My radio show in Glenwood starts in just 12 hours.
Wrestling update: I learned on Friday morning that the Jaguars went 1-1 at Minnewaska, with the one win coming against Border West. This report came from Harley Weber! Thanks Harley, it was fun catching up! Best of luck to the Jaguars on Saturday in Barrett!
