A historic win at STATE!

With their backs truly to the wall in the third-place match of the Class 1A state tournament, the B-B-E Jaguars wrestling team came alive with a full-throated roar in the upper weights after trailing 31-12 through the 152-pound match against Jackson County Central.

Then came the BOOM! The Jaguars won the next three matches by fall, all in the first period, to close the gap to 31-30. Earning the three pins were Brett DeRoo, Ethan Mueller and Maximus Hanson.

At 215, a loss by a decision at 215 put them down 34-30 going into the heavyweight match.

With Carson Gilbert having the weight of the entire match on his shoulders, the junior 215-pound wrestler put the smack down early and won by fall with a time of 1:15. Pandemonium followed!

Final: #2 B-B-E 36, #5 Jackson County Central 34. The Jaguars finish the season 23-2 overall while finishing with a team win! History is made!

The win was special for countless reasons, but one of the most wonderful qualities of the win was how the team prover the doubters wrong! In the past 2 weeks, online chatter at the Guillotine site didn't put much weight into B-B-E's fourth straight state appearance. It's great to show they had the mettle to pick up two state wins.

I will post more details on this match after 10 p.m. tonight.

The Huskies, who were state champions in 2022 and 2023, finish the season 20-5.

**In the state championship, Chatfield has a 12 to 7 lead through 145 lb against Staples-Motley. It's been a grinder so far. Final score: Chatfield 47, Staples-Motley 7.
