The Jaguars Fastpitch team fell in its season opener by a 5-1 margin to the Osakis Silverstreaks on Thursday afternoon. The Jaguars were limited to three hits by Silverstreaks' freshmen Sabrina Zimmel. Jaguars' starting pitcher Michelle Sanders (also a freshmen) was roughed up for five runs on six hits in six innings of work in the circle. Only one of the Osakis runs were earned.
It was a tough loss for the defending Sub-Section 5A-West champions, as the visiting Silverstreaks avenged last year's 8-4 sub-section semi-final loss to the Jaguars.
The Jaguars (0-1) travel to Eden Valley-Watkins to face the Eagles in their Central Minnesota Conference opener next Tuesday, April 14.
Area fastpitch results:
Yellow Medicine East 14, Dawson-Boyd 11

...Just a sidebar note...This is a great link to bookmark if you want to take a look at the 9th-12th grade enrollment figures for Minnesota high schools. This is the figure that was used to determine what class of playoff sections a school is assigned to. B-B-E's figure is 213 students enrolled in the top-four grades (based on figures from earlier this academic year). It actually represents a small dip from the last re-classification period, where B-B-E had 219 enrolled. Fortunately, it was just enough of a dip to allow the basketball teams to get back into Class A.
Enough of my rambling...here's the link: http://mshsl.org/mshsl/enrollments09.asp
