Jaguars Boys Basketball blows away Rockford in CMC action - Jaguars Girls Basketball wins first game of the season at Eden Valley-Watkins 53-34

The Jaguars boys basketball team improved to 2-1 in the Central Minnesota Conference with an 83-59 win over visiting Rockford tonight. The Rockets fall to 1-1 in the CMC and 3-7 overall, while the Jaguars improve to 5-2 overall.

The Jaguars had a huge 41-27 rebounding advantage over the Rockets, while they shot 55% from the floor, including 5-of-10 from beyond the arc.

Up next for the Jaguars boys basketball: a trip on Saturday to Brandon to face the Brandon-Evansville Chargers, a fellow Sub-Section 6A-South team. The C-game begins at 1pm, B-game at 2pm, with the varsity game tip-off scheduled for 3:30pm. The Jaguars follow that with a non-conference trip to Benson on Monday.

The Jaguars girls basketball team picked up its second win this century against Eden Valley-Watkins, defeating the Eagles 53-34 on their home court. After owning a slim 22-19 lead at halftime, the Jaguars (1-6, 1-1 CMC) demolished the Eagles by a 31-15 margin in the second half.

Senior Rachel Anderson hooked a career high 16 rebounds to go with nine points. Two underclassmen, Julie Hieserich and Shyan Kuefler, dished out seven assists apiece.

Eden Valley-Watkins falls to 2-9 overall on the season and 1-2 in the CMC.


Up next for Jaguars girls basketball: a trip to Parkers Prairie next Monday night to face one of the top teams in Class A, as well as one of the best players in Minnesota, Sari Noga. (I'll add more about her after the Jaguars have played the 8-0 Panthers)

In a classic border battle between two once-beaten girls basketball teams, state-ranked Buffalo Lake-Hector defeated visiting Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City 40-37 in Hector. The BL-H Mustangs are enjoying their best season ever in girls basketball history, improving to 8-1 overall with the win. A-C-GC falls to 6-2. Both are Class A teams, with the Mustangs sitting at #7 in the latest state rankings.
