Jaguars volleyball wins at state! 3-0 sweep of Cherry in consolation semis

Maggie Gruber powers down a kill in game one against Cherry.

In one of today's Class A consolation semi-final matches, the Jaguars volleyball team won in three over the Section 7A champion Cherry Tigers; they'll play again on Saturday morning at 9am in the consolation championship match.

Game scores between the Jaguars and Tigers were 25-14, 27-25, 25-16. The Jaguars trailed 24-21 in game two when they staged a thrilling comeback to keep the potential for a sweep alive. Video action from the match will be uploaded later into tonight.

Win-E-Mac will be the opponent in the fifth place match, as they defeated Ada-Borup in four in the other consolation semi-final today. Game scores of that match were 25-22, 25-14, 22-25, 25-14.

Celebrating the win, after earning match point in game three.

A scene from late in game one.

"We have to play with intensity and focus, and just have fun with it," was Maggie Gruber's reply when asked what it will take for the Jaguars to come out with a win to end the season in the fifth place match on Saturday vs. Win-E-Mac.

Other state tournament results today:
Martin County West beats Minneota in an upset 24-26, 17-25, 25-11, 25-19, 17-15. It was crazy! Minneota had leads of 10-7 and 11-8 in game five before caving at the end and allowing MCW to get back into it.

More will follow later tonight. I'll be busy working at the Sauk Centre vs. Wadena-Deer Creek Class AA semi-final match, which begins at 7pm tonight.
