Friday Night Lights Part X is a tough, tough loss on the gridiron tonight - Jaguars football falls 15-6 in Section 4A championship

Trading punch for punch with a talented, potent Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City tonight, the Jaguars football team left it all on the field in Grove City in the Section 4A championship. The game was scoreless at halftime.
The Jaguars finish the 2010 season with an overall record of 3-7. A-C-GC will take on New Ulm Cathedral, the Section 2A champion, next Friday night (7pm) at Chaska high school in the Class A state quarterfinals. NUC upset #1-ranked Springfield 20-7 in their section championship, a win that reversed NUC's 21-7 loss to Springfield in Week One. I will say this: the next few years will be all kinds of fun for B-B-E on the gridiron. It's terribly exciting to realize how much depth and talent is coming up in the ranks for Jaguars football in years to come. This is what it's about! Long after this season is over, people of all ages will walk by the high school trophy case and notice this trophy, which is only the third football trophy earned by a B-B-E team. It was a memorable season for sure. Note: the other two football trophies came in (1) 1988, when the Jaguars went 4-0 in the Prairie Lakes Conference - and (2) 1997, when the Jaguars finished as runners-up in Section 5AA. **Maple Lake and Eden Valley-Watkins both made the Class AA state tournament. Maple Lake will have its hands full when they face 11-0 Triton in their state quarterfinal game. See some area scores below. Action from late in the first quarter tonight... The Jaguars come up with an incredible goal line stand, starting with the Falcons' having first and goal at the three yard line in the second quarter. The drive stalled out when the Jaguars held on fourth-and-goal at the six yard line with 4:21 left in the first half. Area football scores tonight, not grouped by section: Albany 36, New London-Spicer 18 Barnesville 57, Browerville 21 Eden Valley-Watkins 48, BOLD 6 (wow) New Ulm Cathedral 20, Springfield 7 (a mild upset) Ottertail Central 35, Breckenridge 7 (an absolutely shocking upset) Pelican Rapids 17, Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton 14 Minneota 40, Dawson-Boyd 7 Adrian 41, Red Rock Central 20 Edgerton/Ellsworth 22, Wheaton 16 Underwood 27, Hillcrest Lutheran Academy 17 Maple Lake 48, Mayer Lutheran 24 Mankato West 39, Marshall Area 35 (Marshall was a big underdog coming in) Glencoe-Silver Lake 25, Dassel-Cokato 21 (don't look now, but GS-L is back at state with a chip on their shoulder after blowing it in the 2009 Class AAA Prep Bowl) Area playoff game notes...In Section 2AAAA, heavy favorite Mankato West scored with under two minutes to erase a late deficit and win 39-35. The West varsity defense had given up 2 TDs all season - and Marshall scores two on them in the 1st quarter. This was Marshall's first section final appearance since 1991. In Section 2AA, two undefeated teams faced off for a state tourament bid - Waterville/Elysian/Morristown and Triton - with WEM coming into the game with a +28 turnover ratio this season! (That is crazy) Triton pulled off what many felt was a big upset tonight, winning 27-26 over the #1 ranked team in Class AA. Triton was ranked #6 in the final Class AA poll. In Section 5A, Dawson-Boyd really thought they had a shot at beating Minneota for a state berth, and those hopes and dreams came crashing down at Southwest State University tonight in a 40-7 shellacking. Ouch! In Section 4, Nine-Man, Underwood lost to HLA 49-14 in Week Five - but the Rockets reversed that loss by knocking the Comets out of the playoffs. Underwood was 2-7 overall last year, a fairly terrible nine-man unit...but this year they're at state with some very quality wins to boot. This Jaguar sports playoff update is brought to you by:
