As promised - Section 5A wrestling seedings - Jaguars get #6!

With their best regular season of wrestling since 2007-2008 almost wrapped up, the Jaguars wrestling team was awarded the number six seed in this week's Section 5A seeding meeting out of 11 total teams. It's a truly terrific achievement for the Jaguars, as they have wrestled through the season with only 1 to 2 seniors on the roster. On top of that, they are the smallest school in the 11-team section.

The Jaguars (8-13 overall) open up Section 5A playoffs with a play-in round match at Holdingford next Tuesday, February 15 at 6:00pm. Their opponent will be #11 seed Long Prairie-Grey Eagle. If they beat LP-GE, they will then face off with #3-seed Holdingford in the section quarterfinals in a match that takes place later that same evening at the same location.

Holdingford defeated the Jaguars 39-31 on January 11 at the B-B-E High School.

The #6 seed for the Jaguars is their best playoff ranking in Section 5A since the 2005-2006 season, when they were ranked #5 out of 9 teams. That year, they upset Meadow Creek/Christian Academy in the quarterfinals 35-31 before bowing out to eventual section champion Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City. Incidentally, A-C-GC is the #1 seed this year. (And they are very, very good) Last season, the Jaguars were seeded #12 out of 12 teams.

2011 Section 5A wrestling seeding:
1 - Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City
2 - Kimball Area
3 - Holdingford
4 - Paynesville Area
5 - Eden Valley-Watkins
6 - B-B-E
7 - Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted
8 - Osakis
9 - Browerville/Eagle Valley
10 - Minnewaska Area
11 - Long Prairie-Grey Eagle

Tomorrow night, Friday, the Jaguars compete at the Parkers Prairie triangular. (See more on that below.)
