Friday Night Lights Part XI: heartbreak in St. Cloud, Falcons win 6-0

Action from the final minute of the game...Falcons with the ball...

The B-B-E Jaguars football team lost to state-ranked Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City 6-0 in the Section 4A final this afternoon at SCSU's Husky Stadium. The Jaguars finish 6-5 overall, making this year the third in B-B-E school history that the football team finishes with a winning record.

The game was tied 0-0 after one quarter, 0-0 at halftime, 0-0 after three quarters and 0-0 with under two minutes to go. A-C-GC scored with 20 seconds left from two yards out of the end zone.

The Jaguars had pushed the Falcons back to a 4th-and-22 possession with about a minute remaining. A-C-GC came up with a huge play at that point that got them first-and-goal on the B-B-E one-yard line with 55 seconds remaining. It still took 35 seconds on two more plays for A-C-GC to score on third down to break up the scoreless tie.

The Falcons (9-2) advance to the Class A state tournament for the second time in the last three years and face Section 3A champion St. Clair in the quarterfinal round next Friday at Southwest State University in Marshall.

Time to regroup, grab some grub and make the 35-mile trip north to Pierz!

In the Section 6AA volleyball final, Sauk Centre beat Dassel-Cokato 3-1.
