More from Friday
Here's more first-half action...
And a photo from early in the second quarter.
The Jaguars had just scored to go up 14-0 a couple minutes after the quarter break. LP/HT's Nick Tesch got a 29-yard return on the kickoff, and the Bulldogs were fired up with a 60-yard field to work with. On their second play of the drive, LP/HT's quarterback, Alex Heigl, lost the ball under pressure. It sat out there for what felt like 5 seconds, and B-B-E's Ben Feuerhake got to it before anyone else. Shown below is the loose pigskin moments before the Jaguars recovered it.
True, not scoring on this lost fumble with only a 35-yard field was disappointing and led to a dramatic third quarter, it did allow the Jaguars a chance to show they could come back from adversity and still manage to win by a comfortable margin. The 42 points scored is the most ever scored in a season opener by a B-B-E football team. The old record for points scored in a season opener was 36 points scored during their 36-22 win at Ogilvie in 2006. Prior to that, the most points scored in a season opener was 34, earned in the 1988 season opener, the very first football game played by B-B-E Jaguar football players, in a 34-18 win over Bertha-Hewitt.
Here's the other scores from season-opening wins by a B-B-E football team: 1990 14-7 win over Kimball; 1997 15-7 win at Kimball Area; 2000 13-8 win at Ortonville; 2007 33-8 win over West Central Area, 2010 13-0 win at West Central Area.
