Step II is in the book! Another win!
Swanville struggled all night against B-B-E's defense. And check out that crowd in back!!! |
There's not a lot to say about the Jaguar-Bulldogs game, but there's a WHOLE lot to say about the Kimball-Upsala game. Talk about upset special!!! Wow!
Who saw that one coming? Didn't Upsala know about Jarred Merchant? After he dropped 25 points on the Jaguars back in January, we sure do. He scored well over 30 points against the Cardinals defense tonight.
Either much later tonight or on Sunday I've got a great deal of game notes from that game to post.
Here's some of the pregame and early moments of the game:
The Jaguars boys' basketball team had their way with 4th-seeded Swanville the entire night and will take home a 95-39 win in the second round of the 2014 playoffs. The Bulldogs, winners of 14 games this year (6-8 Prairie Conference, tie for 5th), came out with a little zip in their swagger and took a 4-0 lead with 17:10 to go after winning the tip off. Just 40 seconds later the game was tied 4-4, and a layup by Tanner Heinsius with 16:10 on the clock put the Jaguars up 6-4. They never trailed from that point on.
In a 2-minute span, the Jaguars went on an 11-2 run. With a 19-10 lead, the Jaguars blasted the Bulldogs with a 14-3 run fueled mostly by fast break shots. With 9:10 to go, the score read 33-13.
A turnover margin with Swanville at 18 and the Jaguars at 7 helped the Jaguars take a 53-20 lead into halftime.
Now 26-1 overall, the Jaguars face the winner of the nightcap in Little Falls, with Kimball and Upsala getting down to business in the second Sub-Section 5A-South semifinal game tonight at Flyer Gymnasium.
In the second game, the 3rd-seeded Cubs took an early 7-1 lead with 16:14 to go in the first half. With 15:40 left, it was Kimball 9, Upsala 4.
No more updates until after 10:30pm tonight. **Mark this down: Tuesday, March 4 at 7:00pm!! That's when you need to be in Little Falls at the high school gym!! The Sub-Section 5A-South title is on the line then. We'll talk about what happens after that once the Jaguars have their next win in hand...let's not kid ourselves, it's not a sure thing.
