Jaguars split with Tigers

The Jaguars welcome the defense back to the dugout after earning the last win of the 7th inning tonight.
Brendon Loch and Justin Schmitz both scored runs in the top of the 6th inning, with Schmitz's score ending up being the game winner.

After dropping a close game by a 4-2 score in game one, the Jaguars baseball team earned a series split with Browerville in a non-conference doubleheader tonight in Elrosa with an exciting 5-4 win. They ended a four-game losing streak in the process and take a 2-4 overall record into a busy stretch of action next week.

In game two, the Jaguars built a 5-0 lead before Browerville scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth. Two runs was all the Tigers got in the bottom of the seventh, when the Jaguars ended the game with a double play. Browerville got a lead off single followed by a sacrifice bunt that got the lead runner to second base. Their third batter knocked a high ball to the gap between second base and center fielder Trey Heinsius. Heinsius sped towards the ball and made a terrific diving catch. On his knees, he threw the ball to second baseman Brian Goodwin who just had to step on second base to earn the third out with Browerville's runner leading off too far.

B-B-E also turned a double play (5-4-3) in the bottom of the 5th inning.

The Tigers, a Section 5A rival, entered the game with a 4-1 overall record and are 3-1 (3rd) in the Prairie Conference.

Up next: a Central Minnesota Conference game at Holdingford (3-3, 2-3 CMC) on Monday.

**A reminder that the season opener for the Elrosa Saints amateur baseball team is tomorrow, Sunday, at 1:30pm at Spring Hill. The Chargers beat Greenwald on the road earlier today by a 12-2 score in their season opener. Tomorrow should be a fantastic day for baseball, with a high in the forecast of about 55 degrees with partial sunshine and minimal wind. The Saints are coming off of a 12-10 season in which they finished in second place in the Stearns County League North division playoffs and took 3rd place in the Region 15C tournament.

Last summer was a great one for Elrosa baseball, with the Saints Legion team earning their second straight SCL championship and the Little League earning second place.

Other SCL openers around the area include Greenwald at Meire Grove, New Munich at Roscoe, St. Martin at Farming and Lake Henry at Richmond.
