School/police contract

The very first school/police contract at B-B-E was put in place in 2006. According to a February 2006 issue of the Bonanza Valley Voice, the payment from the school to the city of Belgrade was to be made monthly in the amount of $18.08 an hour.

Fast forward to 2014...this is from an October 2014 issue of the Bonanza Valley Voice.

Police Chief Derrick Bjork visited last week to discuss the potential for increased rates for liaison officers attending school for lunch or other activities.  The current rate is and has been for many years at $20/hour.  The thought is that they will be looking for a $2-$3/hour increase.  As a matter of information, there has generally been $6,000 allocated to that service area in the budget, however last year only $3,200 was actually expended so that is the amount put into the current budget.  Therefore if it does increase, a discussion on hours, etc. would have to take place.

Knowledge is power. Thank heavens for the permanent record of city / local government that we call "newspapers"!

Also, I continue to hear nothing but glowing comments about the work of Officer Dayna Kluver, whether it's in Belgrade, Brooten or related to the school district. Let's all continue to tip our hats to her and provide her daily encouragement in her work! It can't be easy. Keep her in your prayers. Her work is extremely valuable and important to our school and communities. Just imagine how much better our police coverage at B-B-E and Brooten will be with Officer Bjork back on board!!

For anyone interested, further discussions about police coverage will take place at Monday nights (February 2) Belgrade city council meeting.
