We lose another great one
Another great one has passed away from us here in Jaguar Country and the Bonanza Valley. George Borgerding, age 90, member of the Belgrade high school Class of 1946, passed away on Sunday.
He was a member of one of the best Belgrade Redmen teams to play in the 20th century, back in his senior year. The 1945-1946 Belgrade team finished 20-2 overall, the most wins for any Belgrade boys' basketball team. They were guided by first-year head coach Lowell Formo. The Redmen finished in third place in the District 20 tournament, losing to Delano 34-33 before beating Willmar 29-18 for the consolation title.
I don't know why we should be so sad that a 90-year old gentleman has passed on to heaven. But I admit, I do have great sadness over hearing this news.
His funeral is on Friday this week, January 18, at 11 a.m. at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Belgrade. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday this week at the church. At 4:30 p.m., a Knights of Columbus rosary will take place in his honor, followed by a 5 p.m. parish prayer service. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service on Friday.
