A convincing CMC win (VIDEOS*)
The B-B-E Jaguars boys' basketball team defeated Holdingford 75-38 tonight in a Central Minnesota Conference game on our home floor. They led 41-21 at halftime and never looked back. Coach Anderson began subbing down heavily with 8 minutes left.
Jamison Reed had a terrific night with 14 points. The senior forward made numerous moves to the basket and finished with 7 made field goals on 9 attempts; he also had 5 rebounds and 2 assists. Other players in double figures were Kaden Pieper (21 points), Luke Dingmann (14) and Brady Schwinghammer (11). Pieper and Schwinghammer each made 3 three-pointers. I'm currently working on an iMovie highlight reel featuring Jamison Reed. Stay tuned.
The Huskers were led by eighth grader Dawson Hofer, a 6'2" guard, who scored 12 points with four rebounds and one blocked shot. He is an up-and-coming player in the CMC and will be fun to watch across the next four seasons.
Central MN Conference boys' basketball scores on February 2:
Eden Valley-Watkins 69, Kimball Area 46 (Eagles win the border battle on the road)
Paynesville Area 57, Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City 47 (Bulldogs win 7th straight contest)
Royalton 100, Maple Lake 40
*And here's an exciting clip from early in the game!
Luke Dingmann's first dunk (he had more) came with about 2 minutes gone in the first half. He scored again to make it a 6-0 lead. Holdingford got on the board with 15:14 left with a made free throw.
*Here's a short clip featuring one of Jamison Reed's strong drives to the basket tonight:
**And here's that highlight reel of Reed! His second basket featured here came with about 8 minutes to go in the game:
Reed's layup in this last part of the iMovie reel gave the Jaguars a 67-36 lead.
I felt that the teamwork the Jaguars displayed tonight was terrific, albeit this was against a team that will be considerably tougher next year than they are this season. It was an honor to get a chance to interview senior Tanner Shelton after the game. I hope to get that posted later tonight. He acknowledged and was very sincere about how the team has much more work to do if they want to reach the goals they've set. This is a work in progress as they continue to mesh seasoned, veteran varsity players with ample state tournament experience and a long list of new parts to the varsity level.
More to come. Video is uploading (ONE posted!) I have some nice reels from tonight! I also created a TON of work due to my cameras in use. My flagship Nikon shot over 260 pictures tonight, while my "Tier 2" Canon shot close to 80 pictures, most by sports photographer Tiyana Schwinghammer. I am getting MUCH more comfortable with my new Nikon. Tonight it popped about as well as it has this entire winter. I am improving! That's what life is all about.
Before I forget and this memory fades without being shared. I HAVE to give a huge, huge shout out to members of the Holdingford girls' basketball team. They were in attendance faithfully cheering on their male counterparts on the basketball court. In the game's final minute, they were all cheering for our one-and-only Zachary Schandorff!! I was taken aback. It was honest, sincere cheering for him. What GREAT SPORTSMANSHIP! That is what it is all about. I spoke to them briefly after the game, and they were completely unaware of what transpired near the end of the Maple Lake game on January 13. I felt that made their cheering for Schandy even more special. BRAVO. This sports reporter was impressed.
Looking ahead briefly: tomorrow night! The girls' basketball team travels to Falcons Country to face Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City at their house. The home girls/boys doubleheader with Browerville is THIS Saturday with preliminary games tipping off at 1 p.m. in Belgrade. The varsity girls' game starts at 2:30 p.m., and the boys' basketball game is at 4 p.m. Then as always, that night is open gym!
**In wrestling news, our Jaguars had a 3-0 night tonight!! I can report more on this on Friday afternoon. This will come in a new blog post.
