SCSU, VanBeck earn NCAA baseball berth
The St. Cloud State University Huskies baseball team has had a tremendous postseason run through the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference tournament. After SCSU defeated Minnesota State University-Mankato by a 7-3 score in the winner's bracket on Saturday morning, they lost 6-5 on Sunday morning in the championship series to force a winner-take-all game. In the afternoon game today, SCSU beat the Mavericks 13-7 to earn an automatic berth in the NCAA tournament.
SCSU's Payton VanBeck, B-B-E Class of 2019, earned the win as middle closer in the final 4 1/3 innings with 5 hits, one walk and 3 runs surrendered. He improved to 3-0 with the win and has pitched a total of 27 innings so far this season.
Jackson Peter (Class of 2020), Peyton Winter (2021), Blaine Fischer (2022) and Will VanBeck (2022) are also making major contributions to college baseball teams. Wyatt Steffensen (2021) is part of the Ridgewater Warriors program to round out the list of B-B-E graduates continuing their baseball careers after starting out as a Jaguar.
