Girls' basketball team ran over by Huskers

They were never really in the game.

Facing state-ranked and two-time defending Central Minnesota Conference champion Holdingford in their house, the B-B-E Jaguars girls' basketball team was no match for the physical play of the Huskers. After falling back 40-16 at halftime, the Jaguars lost by a final score of 66-38.

For the first time all season, the Jaguars were unable to get a player to score in double figures. They shot 19 percent from the floor in the game.

Now 10-10 overall, the Jaguars have a huge game tomorrow in Clarissa at approximately 3 p.m. in the town's former high school building. The opponent will be Section 5A rival Browerville. The Tigers are 5-12 overall (3-3 Prairie Conference).

Let's talk up our speech team!
Also!! I have to give a big shout out to the B-B-E speech team as they will compete in the second meet of the 2024 season tomorrow at Minnewaska Area. The speech team brought just 9 team members to Fergus Falls last weekend, but Coach Sackreiter reported that they will have more traveling to tomorrow's meet. We continue to pray for one of the speech team members, Kora Martinez, as she and her family mourn the loss of Kora's mother, Cassie Mithaugen. I am happy to report that Kora will be traveling with the speech team tomorrow in an observer role while preparing to compete in a future meet.

I finally got a chance tonight to read up on how B-B-E graduates have been doing in basketball this season. Abby Berge just had one of her best games of her freshman season at Moorhead State University last Tuesday against visiting University of Minnesota-Crookston. In a reserve role, Berge played 24 minutes and had a monster double-double of 15 points and 13 rebounds with 3 steals and one assist. The Dragons, who out-rebounded the Golden Eagles by a massive 67 to 40 margin, are 8-12 overall and 8-7 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. MSUM travels to Bemidji tomorrow for a 1 p.m. NSIC contest.

Last Monday, January 29, Tiyana Schwinghammer's Northland Pioneers out of Thief River Falls defeated the JV squad from Concordia College-Moorhead 68-64. At halftime, the Pioneers led 35-25 while improving to 16-4 overall. Schwinghammer had 9 points and 13 rebounds. They are also in first place in the Minnesota Community Athletic College's north division with a 4-0 mark after beating Central Lakes College 63-49 on the road on Saturday, January 27.
