A thrilling win at the Granite City Classic (VIDEO)
In their first game of the Granite City Classic, the B-B-E Jaguars girls' basketball team faced Cass Lake-Bena, a state tournament contender out of Section 8A. The Jaguars held CL-B to just 19 points in the first half on their way to a 52-51 win. For the latest Minnesota Basketball News state rankings, CL-B was ranked No. 10 in Class 1A.
In the first half, the Jaguars overpowered CL-B with 34 percent field goal shooting while forging a 32-19 lead at the break.
The Jaguars shot 31 percent from the floor in the game, but their defense held the Panthers to frigid 22 percent shooting in the first half (6-of-27). Leading the way was Kacey Fischer with 15 points, 9 rebounds and 2 steals. Bree Thieschafer had 11 points with 4 rebounds and 6 steals. Teagan Dingmann scored 9 points, and Mya Worms and Adley Hagen each had 8 points. CL-B senior Gabby Fineday, who surpassed 2,000 career points last February, scored 25 points with 5 rebounds and 6 steals.
CL-B (8-2) was ranked No. 3 in the December 6 Minnesota Basketball News state rankings. In the latest QRF rankings, CL-B was ranked No. 25 in Class 1A, while the Jaguars were at No. 67 out of 150 teams. On offense, CL-B entered today's game with a crazy scoring average of 77.8 points per game.
Next: the Jaguars (5-5) face Walker-Hackensack-Akeley tomorrow (Saturday) at 10 a.m. at St. Cloud Tech high school. W-H-A was 8-0 going into today's Granite City Classic game against Pierz. The Wolves are putting up some incredible numbers with a scoring average of 73 points per game and a defensive average of just 38.5 points per game.

The Jaguars held a 19-16 lead as that video started. The teams battled to a 23-23 halftime score.

The JV boys' basketball team tips off at the Whitney Center in St. Cloud at 9 a.m. against Mountain Iron-Buhl. Later in the morning, the varsity boys' basketball Jaguars play at 11:30 a.m. at St. Cloud Tech high school against Cass Lake-Bena. The JV girls play at 12:45 p.m. at the College of St. Benedict in St. Joseph against Albany.
Today at the Granite City Classic, the B-B-E Jaguars boys' basketball team suffered a 90-54 loss to Heritage Christian Academy. They trailed 49-26 at halftime. Taylor Pieper with 14 points and Luke Illies with 12 points led the team. The HCA Eagles (6-2 overall) placed 5th at the state tournament last season after opening state with a 64-53 loss to West Central Area in the quarterfinal round.
