Fastpitch battles elements, earns split with Maple Lake (VIDEOS*)

After pushing through technical difficulties, I'll get video added to this blog post on Friday morning. Also! Playoff seeding will be added in a NEW blog post late Friday morning.

Here's a video featuring part of the pregame huddle:

In a home Central Minnesota Conference doubleheader today with a wicked south wind blowing into the stadium, the B-B-E Jaguars fastpitch team earned a series split with Maple Lake. They won 2-1 in game one before the Irish earned a 3-2 win in game two with a walk-off RBI deciding the game.

Going into the second game, both teams held a 7-6 record in the CMC. Maple Lake finished in third place alone with an 8-6 record, while the Jaguars took fourth place alone with a 7-7 record. B-B-E's 7-7 record is their best CMC record since the 2009 season. In 2009, the Jaguars finished 8-6 in the CMC, which put them in 5th place that year.

Here's a video from the top of the 7th inning as the Jaguars clinched the win in game one:

A few game statistics...
Taylor Shelton and Mya Worms each had 2 hits to lead the Jaguars at the plate in game one. Worms gave up 4 hits in a complete-game effort in the circle while giving up no walks and firing 4 strikeouts. In game two, Kenna Lieser was the leading hitter with a 2-for-3 effort at the plate with one run scored Kacey Fischer was 1-for-3 with an RBI.

Also! B-B-E's 10-9 overall record marks the first time since 2009 that they will enter the postseason with a winning record. This is an achievement they should be extremely proud of! Their 10-9 record improves on last year's 8-11 record they held going into subsections. The Sub-Section 3A-North tournament begins next Tuesday, May 20. That's all I know right now. I won't have firm information on the playoff schedule/locations, etc. until late tomorrow (Friday) morning.

B-B-E's home baseball doubleheader for today against Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City was postponed into next week. The stakes for next week are HUGE! Currently, the Jaguars sit alone in first place in the CMC with an 8-3 record. Paynesville Area and Royalton each finished 10-4 in the CMC but are both in the running for a share of the title. Holdingford, who the Jaguars are supposed to play tomorrow, is 9-4 in the CMC. If the Jaguars win 2 out of their last 3 CMC games, they will earn a share of the CMC title. If they go 3-0, they will be solo CMC champions.

That's all I've got right now. I am going to sneak in some garden planting before it gets dark. After tonight, I won't be able to do any proper gardening for at least 3 days, possibly more! The forecast for the weekend is awful. Cold, fall-like weather is on its way. Dang it! However, with this rough weather we're experiencing, we are getting some extremely valuable rain out of the deal.

Area fastpitch scores on May 15:

Renville County West 15, MACCRAY 0
Yellow Medicine East 13, Dawson-Boyd 2
Edgerton/Southwest MN Christian 5, Murray County Central 0
