Jaguars boys basketball appearing in 7th sub-section championship game in B-B-E history tonight at St.John's University

* Jaguars boys basketball update

The Jaguars have broken the school record for total wins in a season with their current 24-4 record, breaking what they did in 2001-2002 (23-4).

The Jaguars advanced to the sub-section championship game for the first time since 2005. That year, they won the 5A-South title for the 2nd time in a row before falling in a truly heartbreaking 58-56 loss to Battle Lake.

• The Jaguars won their first-ever boys basketball conference title this year. They went 12-2 in the CMC this year, tying their best-ever record in a conference as B-B-E (12-2 in 2002 as well).

Four other years (1991, 1997, 2002, 2003) the Jaguars finished 1 game out of the Conference Championship. They were also 2nd in the conference in 1998.

Playing in a tough conference both in the 1990s (West Central South) and this decade (The Central Minnesota Conference) has always prepared the Jaguars well for playoff battles. It is by far their most successful boys sport at B-B-E, since the 1988 pairing.

The Jaguars also won conference titles in wrestling (1989, 1990, 1997) football (1988), baseball (1995), and boys golf (2002, 2003).

* NL-S Wildcats

The NL-S Wildcats have had plenty of success on the hardwood, with numerous District and Sub-Section championship appearances in the 1980s, 1990s, and this decade.

* * Tonight against Albany, the Wildcats will be vying to advance to the sub-section championship for the 4th straight year.

They have played in the sub-section title game 4 of the past 5 seasons.

* Since 2004, the Wildcats have played in Sub-Section championship games these years:

2004 (Loss to Annandale in District 20 - 5AA)
2006 (Win vs. Eden Valley-Watkins 61-56 in District 20 - 5AA)
2007 (Win vs. Paynesville 65-60 in District 20 - 5AA)
2008 (Win vs. Melrose 56-49 in Sub-Section 6AA-East last year)

They also played in the state tournament in the 1990s under Bob Knutson. Now under Matt Cordes, the Wildcats are still on the map and still making a name for their program.
