A story showing a sign of the times - and a warning, if you don't support something, you will lose it

"The Big Store grocery in New London closing Monday"

By: Garret Felder, West Central Tribune

NEW LONDON — Longtime New London grocery the Big Store will close Monday after struggling for business during the winter months.

Carla Hedtke of the Big Store told the Tribune today the downtown New London grocery store will close sometime Monday following a 30-percent-off sale of the store’s goods.

Hedtke said the Big Store’s staff was informed about the grocery store’s closing yesterday. The Hedtke family, headed by Brian Hedtke, has owned the store for over three years, she said.

“It’s just slow,” Hedtke said. “We’re just trying to get over the winter months.”

The store will hold the 30-percent-off sale on its goods until its closing, Hedtke said.

The moral of the story is, if you don't support your local businesses, you will lose them. If you have any decency in you, remember that Wal-Mart does not need your money!
