Jaguars boys basketball blow away another Central Minnesota Conference team, beating Pierz 73-52 on the road - Girls basketball drubs Maple Lake 54-32
Rachel Anderson (#20) led the Jaguars on the boards tonight against Maple Lake, hauling in nine rebounds. Lauren Anderson (#14), shown flanking Kimball's Amanda Wittenberg in a January 26th game, led the Jaguars in scoring with 14 points and eight rebounds against Maple Lake tonight. They entertain Kimball on Friday night this week, looking to cap a series sweep over the Cubs.
The Jaguars girls basketball team won its 10th game of the season while improving to 6-7 in the Central Minnesota Conference with a 54-32 win over the visiting Maple Lake Irish.
Senior center Lauren Anderson led the Jaguars with 14 points and eight rebounds. She scored 10 of the team's first 16 points of the game, all on field goals, as the Jaguars jumped in front 16-6 with Anderson's strong play down low.
Maple Lake falls to 1-12 in the Central Minnesota Conference and 5-18 overall.
The Jaguars girls host Kimball Area on Friday night in the final game of the regular season. They look to cap a series sweep over the Cubs; they defeated Kimball 69-58 on January 26. Kimball Area just defeated Pierz 58-43 on Tuesday night, snapping a five-game losing streak to bring their overall record to 12-11 (4-9 CMC).
A final score out of Pierz tonight: B-B-E 73, Pierz 52. It is the biggest margin of victory that a B-B-E boys basketball team has ever had at Pierz.
Not only that, but the win marks the second 20+ win season in a row for the Jaguars, and the fourth overall in B-B-E school history. The 2001-2002 squad finished 21-3 before playoffs, the 2002-2003 squad was 20-5 before playoffs, and last year's team was 22-4 going into Sub-Section 6AA-East play.
Most impressive in tonight's win was that they trailed 33-31 at halftime and then proceeded to punish the Pioneers in the second half, outscoring their hosts by a 42-19 margin. Five Jaguars scored nine or more points, led by Kevin Kuefler's 20 points, nine rebounds, and six assists.
**In a colossal upset tonight in Sauk Centre, the host Mainstreeters girls basketball team lost their second straight game, falling to Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City 45-29.
