Annual B-B-E Jaguar Cross Country Invitational is Thursday - Jaguars girls tennis and volleyball also host home matches
The annual B-B-E Jaguars Cross Country meet is tomorrow (Thursday) beginning at 4:30pm at Prairie View Community Golf Course. A total of 16 teams will be competing, including the host Jaguars, Albany, B.O.L.D., Benson, Eden Valley-Watkins, Minnewaska Area, Montevideo, Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta, New London-Spicer, Paynesville Area, Redwood Valley, Renville County West, Royalton, Saint John's Prep, Sauk Centre, and Holdingford.
It's a great chance for you to come out and cheer on your Jaguar long distance runners.
The Jaguars girls tennis team hosts their Prairie Conference opener this Thursday at the High School Athletic Complex beginning at 4:30pm against New York Mills.
The NYM Eagles are 1-3 overall and 0-1 in the Prairie Conference.
The Jaguars volleyball team opens Central Minnesota Conference action on Thursday with a home match against Holdingford.
The Huskers are 1-1 overall. On October 22 last season, the Jaguars traveled to Holdingford and defeated the Huskers 25-16, 25-12, 25-14. The last time the Jaguars did not sweep Holdingford in volleyball was October 11, 2007. Holdingford has not defeated B-B-E in volleyball since the Jaguars' first year they joined the CMC, back in 1999.
That streak should continue through this season - although the Huskers will be a formidable opponent and can't be taken lightly. Below is a preview of their team, courtesy of the newspaper from Little Falls.

The Holdingford volleyball team returns four starters this year following a 9-18-1 season (2-5 Central Minnesota Conference) last year.
Huskers coach Brenda Payne will see seniors Anna Bernstetter and Alyssa Kostreba and sophomores Haley Huls and Jena Volkers return this year.
Bernstetter, a middle hitter, had 164 kills, 267 digs and 33 aces last season. Kostreba is the team’s setter and Huls and Volkers are outside hitters.
Volkers had 104 kills last year.
Over this next weekend I'll be adding team capsules/previews for other Central Minnesota Conference volleyball teams.
A side note, in case you missed it...a photo album with 178 pictures from the B-B-E vs. WCA football opener last Friday night has been uploaded to the Sauk Centre Herald's online photo gallery.

I also did more research today and found out that I was wrong about season-opening wins for B-B-E in football. Dang it, I hate when that happens. They have in fact won seven season openers in 23 years of B-B-E football. The years were 1988 (the one I missed), 1990, 1997, 2002, 2006, 2007, and 2010. In 2000, they lost to Ortonville in the season opener, and in 2002, they beat the Trojans 13-8 in Week 1.
